SAKHI Bandipora’s “Prevalence on Domestic Violence During COVID Lockdown” Released by Union Minister of State, Shri Ramdas Athawale during his visit to Bandipora

Bandipora, October -06(PTK): Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment Shri Ramdas Athawale on Wednesday visited Bandipora district as part of the Union Government’s ongoing Public Outreach Programme. He e-inaugurates various projects, meets public delegations. During the visit, the minister participated in several activities, met public delegations and inaugurated various developmental projects.

He was accompanied by Chairman District Development Council Abdul Gani, Deputy Commissioner Dr Owais Ahmad (IAS), Senior Superintendent of Police Mohammad Zahid (JKPS), Additional Private Secretary, Shri Praveen Morya, Director General Social Welfare Mr. B A Dar, Additional District Development Commissioner Mr. Ali Afsar Khan, Additional Deputy Commissioner Mr. Zahoor Ahmad Mir, Joint Director Planning Mr. Imtiyaz Ahmad, District Social Welfare Officer, Mr. Ubaid ul Khazir (JKAS) and other senior officers of the district.

During the visit, Union Minister of State formally e-inaugurated the 1000 LPM Oxygen Generation Plant at Government District Hospital Bandipora installed at the cost of Rs 6.75 Crores and other development projects like the complex of Government Middle School Saderkoot Bala constructed at the cost of Rs 95 lakhs besides inaugurating the Buildings constructed for Government Primary School Sadunara at the cost of Rs 95 Lakhs, creation and augmentation of 7 sub stations at various locations in Bandipora district at the cost of Rs 37.65 lakhs, several Panchayat Ghars in the district that were reconstructed of renovated at the cost of Rs 9.62 lakhs etc.

The Minister also released a research study book on domestic violence compiled by SAKHI – One Stop Centre, Bandipora in collaboration with District Administration, Bandipora and it’s implementing agency – JKSWM.

Giving details of the book, Ishrat Ayoub, Centre Administrator, One Stop Centre, Bandipora said “The interpretation of findings in this study report does not necessarily reflect the opinions of the individual teams of OSC but is based on the information and data received from women from different areas under survey.
She said that SAKHI – One Stop Centre, Bandipora in one of its attempts has tried to conduct a study about Domestic Violence in district Bandipora in joint collaboration with District Administration Bandipora headed by Dr. Owais Ahmed (IAS), represented by Mr. Imtiyaz Ahmad, Joint Director Planning and JKSWM represented by Miss Rehana, Secretary JKSWM. The study was carried out under the noble guidance and supervision of Mr. Zahoor Ahmad Mir (KAS), DPO Bandipora and Mr. Imtiyaz Ahmed, JDP Bandipora. All the concerned officials and experts provide guidance for the study in a well coordinated manner. The goal of the study is to get reliable and sound information with which to identify, replicate, expand and advocate for effective responses to domestic violence. The study tries to assess the patterns and trends of domestic violence by identifying and analyzing data sets, conducting population based survey to estimate prevalence and to increase the understanding of determinants and outcomes of Domestic Violence and distilling”, The support and coordination provided by District Administration Bandipora and all time guidance of Mr. Imtiyaz Ahmed, Jt. Director Planning, Bandipora is worth mentioning,” she added.

Talking about the sidelines of the book, Shahida Bashir, ITP, OSC Bandipora said, “Prevalence of Domestic Violence During COVID Lockdown” is a research study, an initiative and a hardcore effort to bring out more information about domestic violence to the public and to enable different agency or policy makers to devise strategy as per the prevailing situations of the women in the society.” Women was most likely hit by various kinds of violences especially during COVID lockdown periods or simply we may say that DV cases were on rise during the said period, ” Shahida added.

During the book releasing event, the Minister hails the efforts put into by SAKHI – One Stop Centre, Bandipora and District Administration in bringing out such a noble study that could help women facing any kind of violence and their best remedial measures.

The Minister also awarded certificates of appreciation and momentos to Ishrat Ayoub, Centre Administrator and Shahida Bashir of SAKHI – One Stop Centre, Bandipora for their better integrated efforts, performance and services provided to the women effected by any violence and efforts made for this research study.

Later the Minister interacted with public delegations including members of District Development Council Bandipora, Chairmen of Municipal Committees and Council, BDC members and other PRI representatives, members of All J&K OBC Manch, representatives of associations of Physically challenged persons , representatives of Old Age, Pensioners, Widows and Destitute, members of Tehsil Coordination Committee Hajin, Citizens Welfare Forum Sumbal, Gujjar Bakerwal Youth Forum, carpenters union besides other individuals.(PTK).
