56 WSSs worth Rs 11,649.66 lakh taken up under JJM in Pahalgam Constituency: Javed Rana
SRINAGAR, SEPTEMBER 30 (PTK): Minister for Jal Shakti Department Javed Rana informed the Legislative Assembly that 56 Water Supply Schemes (WSSs) have been taken up under the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) at an estimated cost of Rs 11,649.66 lakh to provide adequate and potable drinking water to habitations across Pahalgam Constituency.
The Minister was replying to a Calling Attention Notice moved by MLA Altaf Ahmad Wani regarding the status of water supply schemes in the constituency.
Rana said that of the 56 schemes taken up under JJM, 31 have been completed and made functional, while the remaining 25 schemes are under execution and have achieved more than 75 per cent physical progress.
He informed the House that the balance works would be completed and the schemes commissioned within the extended timeline prescribed under JJM 2.0, which has now been extended up to December 2028.
Regarding the Regional Dachnipora Water Supply Scheme, the Minister said that the pace of execution has been affected due to a long-pending land dispute, with the matter remaining sub judice. The villages and habitations covered under the scheme are presently receiving drinking water partially through existing older water supply systems.
The Minister further informed that WSS Litroo, taken up under NABARD at an estimated cost of Rs 564.75 lakh, has achieved around 80 per cent physical progress.
Rana said that water supply to Wullerhama, Hardekathal and Sofipora was adversely affected by back-to-back cloudbursts in Nallah Awoora during July and August. The affected infrastructure has since been temporarily restored, while a proposal for permanent restoration has been submitted.
He added that drinking water is currently being supplied to the affected areas through the existing old system, while tanker services are being deployed wherever required and within available resources.
The Minister stated that proposals for augmentation, coverage of left-out habitations and restoration works have also been incorporated under various programmes, including UT Capex, District Capex and SASCI.
Rana assured the House that the Jal Shakti Department is taking necessary measures to address water supply issues and ensure uninterrupted access to safe drinking water for residents of Pahalgam Constituency.(PTK)
