Residents of Karewa Rampora Mattan Complain About Inadequate Healthcare Facilities
Anantnag, July 22: Residents of Karewa Rampora Mattan in Anantnag District have expressed concerns over inadequate healthcare and the lack of basic facilities at the Primary Health Centre (PHC) Karewa Rampora Mattan. Despite being inaugurated on May 9, 2022, by the then Financial Commissioner and Additional Chief Secretary H&ME, Vivek Bharadwaj (IAS), in the presence of Dr. Mushtaq Ahmad, Director of Health Kashmir, the PHC has yet to be fully equipped to meet the healthcare needs of the local population.
A local resident, speaking to the Press Trust of Kashmir (PTK), stated, “The primary health center was inaugurated in 2022, but to date, it has not been made functional as a PHC. The hospital lacks basic facilities, which is very unfortunate.” The residents reported that they must travel to either Mattan Sub Hospital or GMC Anantnag for first aid treatment in case of illness or emergencies due to the PHC’s lack of basic facilities and staff.
However, Dr. Molvi Khalid Abbas, BMO Mattan, refuted these allegations in an interview with PTK. He stated that an MBBS doctor had been posted at the hospital, but the doctor left the job to pursue further studies. “The PHC now has a vacant post, but the other sanctioned staff, including MLHP, are already posted in the hospital. We have communicated this issue to higher authorities, and we hope it will be resolved very soon,” Dr. Abbas said.
The residents continue to hope for swift action to make the PHC fully functional and adequately equipped to cater to their healthcare needs.
