Limbs of Hope for Tazeem Humanity Still Alive

Press Trust of Kashmir | Rajouri : Tazeem’s is a heart-wrenching story of distress and despair. She is a case of bi-lateral below-knee amputation. She is currently putting up at Nari Niketan Centre in Rajouri. Her artificial limbs (Prosthesis) were in broken-down condition and she desperately needed replacement of the same A local Journalist cum Social Activist by the name of Imran Khan stumbled upon Tazeem’s story incidentally. He was so moved by her condition that he promised all possible help he could for her rehabilitation Imran got in touch with the Executive Director Samiullah Wani of the Hope Disability Centre located in Ganderbal who assured him full support for restoring her mobility.
Tazeem was at the time staying in Nari Niketan, Rajouri. To send her over to HDC Ganderbal, Imran required permission from the local Administration. So he met the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Rajouri R K Shavan and discussed her case with him. The concerned DC in turn referred the case to District Social Welfare Officer (DSWO) Rajouri Wakeel Ahmed Bhat who granted the necessary permission for her travelling to Ganderbal.MAfter getting permission for her shift to Ganderbal, HDC sends an ambulance to Rajouri to pick her up. Imran himself along with the superintendent of Nari Niketan Centre Ms. Nidhi Sharma accompanied Tazeem to Ganderbal.
At the HDC, the technical team after assessment of the case took her measurement for the fabrication of new limbs. During the time artificial limbs were fabricated, Tazeem along with Imran and Nidhi stayed at the HDC hostel where they had been looked after well. Once her artificial limbs were ready, they were duly fitted to her. She was subsequently put through gait training. She appeared quite satisfied with the new limbs and couldn’t thank doctors enough at the HDC.
After her rehabilitation was complete, she was transported back to Rajouri by the HDC.She is now functionally independent and can take good care of herself.
HOPE DISABILITY CENTRE (HDC)-an undertaking of SHE HOPE SOCIETY FOR WOMEN ENTREPRENEURS is a non-profit, non-political, non-government non-religious organization working in the remote, border and disaster-prone areas of Jammu and Kashmir on Physical Rehabilitation, Livelihood, Inclusive Education, Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR), Public Health, Skill Development for Vulnerable population including people with disabilities since 2001 through Community Based Rehabilitation (CBR), Institutional Based Rehabilitation (IBR) programs/approach in close coordination with the State Administration.The direct beneficiaries of rehabilitation services of Hope Disability Centre since its inception stands at 21,567 while as the number of indirect beneficiaries stands at 1, 07,835.(PTK).
