Kulgam: Rural Development Department Flouts RTI Act

SRINAGAR, JUNE 27: In a blatant disregard for the Right to Information (RTI) Act, the Rural Development Department’s Block Kund in Kulgam, South Kashmir, has failed to provide information to an applicant despite three months passing since the request was made.
Sahil Gulzar had filed an RTI application on March 28, 2024, seeking details on the works done in the block. However, after three months, the department has not furnished the requested information. The applicant filed a First Appeal, but even then, the department failed to provide the information, with employees only promising to do so “soon”.
When contacted, the Block Development Officer (BDO) Kund Kulgam claimed he was unaware of the matter, being on leave, but promised to look into it.
The applicant has alleged that the department is making a mockery of the RTI Act, and demands immediate attention to this matter.”
