Kashmiri Pandits of Delhi-NCR sit on Protest at Jantar Mantar, New Delhi to mark the 32nd year of exile
Press trust of kashmir | Srinagar : A large group of Kashmiri Pandits from Delhi-NCR region organized a protest at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi to observe the 32nd. year of exodus from valley. Observing all Covid19 norms, the protestors remembered the dark night of 19 Jan 1990, when the community was thrown out of valley leaving behind hearth & homes. This was perpetrated under Islamic Jihad unleashed by Pakistan.
The pandits under one banner displayed placards in a silent protest depicting their plight and recalled the horrors of the forced exile and the happenings thereafter, living in different parts of the world. The aborigines of the land have become refugees in their own country, a tragedy never surpassed.
The protest was organized & led by Ravinder Pandita, a notable activist and Head of Save Sharda Committee Kashmir regd, who stressed the need for the Govt. to take practical steps in consultations with the community for their safe return. “ We are still refugees in our own country” he said. Another activist Des Raj Koul demanded “ what is our address & identity’ from the government. Sushil Hashia of Faridabad demanded a white paper on the circumstances that led to the exodus.
Later a memorandum listing demands of Relief & Rehabilitation was also submitted to Hon’ble Prime Minister and Home Minister.
