J&K’s Omar Abdullah Accuses Present Government of Suppressing People’s Authority

SRINAGAR : Speaking out against the current dispensation in Jammu and Kashmir, National Conference Vice President Omar Abdullah asserted that the present government is obstructing the return of authority to the people’s hands.

 

Reports reaches news agency Press Trust of Kashmir, in Kulgam, Omar Abdullah lamented the government’s actions, citing the sabotage of plans to hold both Parliamentary and Assembly elections concurrently in Kashmir. He attributed this obstruction to a reluctance on the part of the current administration to relinquish control to the populace.

 

“We were optimistic about simultaneous Parliamentary and Assembly elections in Kashmir, but the current government has undermined this prospect, evidently shunning the notion of returning authority to the people,” Abdullah remarked.

 

Despite this setback, Abdullah expressed satisfaction with the Supreme Court’s directive to conduct Assembly Elections in J&K before September 30, 2024. He highlighted the Chief Election Commissioner’s assurance of timely elections, thereby enabling the people to reclaim governance.

 

Responding to queries about the People’s Alliance for Gupkar Declaration (PAGD), Abdullah affirmed its continued existence and disclosed plans for an imminent meeting of its members.

 

The assertions made by Omar Abdullah underscore growing concerns regarding democratic processes and governance structures in the region, amid ongoing political developments.
