J&K Government Approves ₹15.99 Crore Water Supply Scheme for Watergam Under CM Omar Abdullah’s Leadership
Srinagar, June 10 (PTK): In a significant step towards strengthening drinking water infrastructure in north Kashmir, the Jammu and Kashmir Government under the leadership of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has approved a ₹15.99 crore Water Supply Scheme for Watergam Town in Baramulla district under the Capex Budget 2026–27.
The approved project aims to enhance the availability of safe, reliable and sustainable drinking water for the residents of Watergam by upgrading and expanding the existing water supply infrastructure.
According to officials, the scheme will augment the present water supply network, address the increasing demand for potable water and improve the overall efficiency of water distribution in the town.
The project is expected to provide substantial relief to residents by ensuring improved access to clean drinking water and strengthening public health and sanitation standards in the area.
Officials stated that the scheme forms part of the government’s broader commitment to upgrading essential civic infrastructure and ensuring equitable access to basic services across all regions of Jammu and Kashmir.
The approval of the project is also expected to contribute to the socio-economic development of Watergam by supporting urban growth and improving the quality of life of the local population.
The government reiterated its commitment to accelerating infrastructure development and delivering people-centric projects aimed at enhancing public welfare and strengthening basic amenities throughout the Union Territory.(PTK)
