Sopore :The Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) caught Assistant Executive Engineer (AEE) Mubarak Ahmad Ganie of the Public Works Department (R&B) Division Sopore red-handed while accepting a bribe of ₹25,000 from a contractor. The AEE had allegedly demanded a 2% commission for processing the contractor’s bills.

The contractor, who had been working on the construction of a lecture block at Government Degree College Sopore, lodged a complaint with the ACB after Mubarak Ahmad Ganie refused to process his bills unless the 2% commission was paid. Acting on the complaint, the ACB discreetly verified the allegations and registered an FIR under the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 (as amended in 2018).

A trap team was subsequently formed, and the AEE was arrested at the PWD R&B office in Sopore while accepting the bribe. Following the arrest, searches were conducted at the accused’s residence and office, leading to the recovery of incriminating documents.

The accused was presented before the Anti-Corruption Court in Baramulla and has been remanded to police custody for further investigation.
