Incessant rains:- Restrictions imposed on the banks of water bodies in Reasi

PRESS TRUST OF KASHMIR Srinagar JULY 28:- In view of the incessant rains, restrictions have been imposed on banks of water bodies in Reasi district.

“Whereas, the monsoon season is at peak and due to heavy rain the water level in River Chenab and other Rivers/Rivulets in the District is increasing; and Whereas, Meteorology Department issued advisory warning of flash floods, mudslides and landslides at vulnerable places in Jammu & Kashmir; and whereas, Group General Manager, NHPC Ltd. Salal Power Station, Jyotipuram has intimated that due to rise in water level of river Chenab public of District Reasi in general and public of villages in upstream of Salal Dam: Dharan, Thanpal, Arnas, Sailanjan, Narloo, Gari, Salmot & villages in downstream: Gujjar Kothi, Saidh Baba, Bidda, Kachhi Khera, Talwara, Nambla, Vijaypur, Baradhari, Kansi Patta, Jerri, Panassa, Bhabber, Chumbian, Dera Baba Banda Badhur, Seri etc in particular is informed that emergent flushing shall take place today from the reservoir of Salal Power Station. The gates of Salal Dam shall be opened at any time with the result there will be further increase in flow of water and level of River Chenab shall increase or decrease at any point of time. As such movement of men, vehicles and cattle/animals into the river is not advisable.” Reads the order issued by ADC Reasi.

“Whereas, it has come to the notice of the undersigned that large number of locals/ pilgrims/tourists are visiting at the bank of River Chenab every day at the above mentioned sites, thereby posing a grave risk to their lives & property; and, it is felt necessary to impose restriction on venturing out of the public on hilly and landslide /mudslide prone areas and visiting / taking baths /taking cattle at the River chenab and other rivulets.

“Therefore, in view of above, I, Abdul Star, JKAS, Additional District Magistrate, Reasi by virtue of powers vested in me under section 144 Cr.PC. do hereby impose restrictions/ban on visiting and bathing by the local people /pilgrims/ tourists/taking cattle at the bank of River Chenab and other Rivers / Rivulets.” It reads.

“Sr. Superintendent of Police, Reasi is directed to implement the order in letter and spirit and this order shall remain in force w.e.f. 28-07-2022 to 03-08-2022.” It adds.
