Hoped New Delhi understands reverence of Hurriyat (M) chairman commands: Sajad Lone
SRINAGAR, APR 12 (PTK): Separatist-turned-politician and Peoples Conference (PC) chairman Sajad Gani on Friday said that he hoped New Delhi understands the reverence of the Hurriyat (M) chairman commands.
“Happy to @MirwaizKashmir back in Srinagar. A gruelling ordeal for someone as gentle as the Mirwaiz Umar Sahib. Irrespective of political differences he is a religious head and a uniting force for Muslims in Kashmir. I hope Delhi understands the reverence that he commands. (sic),” Lone said on Twitter.
Before taking plunge into electoral politics, Lone’s Peoples Conference was a constituent of Hurriyat (M).
On Thursday, Hurriyat (M) chairman and Kashmir’s chief cleric Miwaiz Umar Farooq returned to Srinagar after spending three days at the NIA headquarters in New Delhi.
Mirwaiz was summoned to New Delhi in a case related to alleged funding of militants and separatist groups.
Earlier Mirwaiz came to NIA headquarters Delhi under police protection and will be questioned on the matter of funding of his own party — Awami Action Committee — and Hurriyat Conference, a conglomerate of several separatist organisations, the officials said.
The Mirwaiz is the chairman of the Hurriyat Conference which has in the past engaged with the NDA and UPA-led governments for talks to find a lasting solution to the Kashmir issue.
The NIA has also summoned Naseem Geelani, son of pro-Pakistan separatist Syed Ali Shah Geelani, on Tuesday but it was not immediately clear whether he was appearing before the agency or not.
The NIA probe seeks to identify the chain of players behind the financing of terrorist activities, pelting of stones on security forces, burning down of schools and damaging of government establishments. (PTK)
