GDC Pulwama Holds Seminar on Innovation and Environmental Sustainability

Pulwama, June 13: A seminar on “Innovation and Environmental Sustainability” was hosted by the Institution’s Innovation Council at Government Degree College (GDC) Pulwama, in collaboration with the College Eco Club and NSS Units, yesterday at the College Auditorium. The event brought together distinguished speakers to discuss the urgent need for creative solutions to environmental challenges.

The seminar began with a heartfelt welcome address by Dr. Shah Ubaidullah from the Department of Biotechnology. Dr. Ubaidullah warmly greeted the seminar’s patron, Prof. Haris Izhar Tantray, the guest speaker, Abdul Hamid Bhat, and the attending students and faculty members.

He introduced Abdul Hamid Bhat, praising his significant contributions to environmental sustainability and setting a thoughtful tone for the event. Prof. Haris Izhar Tantray, the college principal, then delivered the keynote address, emphasizing the critical importance of environmental sustainability and the need for innovative approaches to address pressing environmental issues. His remarks underscored the college’s commitment to fostering a culture of sustainability and innovation.

The seminar included a series of video presentations showcasing the extensive work of Abdul Hamid Bhat, often referred to as the “Green Man of Kashmir” for his environmental conservation efforts. These videos provided a comprehensive overview of his impactful initiatives and contributions to promoting sustainability.

Abdul Hamid Bhat took the stage to discuss the concept of social responsibility and the entrepreneurial role of individuals in society. He stressed the importance of an awakened conscience and a sense of duty towards the environment. Encouraging students to explore business opportunities, Bhat quoted former President of India A.P.J. Abdul Kalam: “Never let the problem become your captain; you become the captain of the problem, defeat them and succeed.”

Elaborating on his achievements, Bhat shared his efforts in raising environmental awareness and supporting student fellowships. He outlined his ambitious vision of planting one million trees by 2030, demonstrating his commitment to creating a greener and more sustainable future. The event concluded with a formal vote of thanks by Dr. Idrees, who expressed gratitude to Abdul Hamid Bhat for his enlightening address, the faculty for their support, and the students for their enthusiastic participation.
