Five Soldiers Killed in Tragic Incident During Military Training in Eastern Ladakh

Eastern Ladakh  : In a tragic incident, five soldiers lost their lives when their tank was swept away by a sudden surge in the water level of the Shyok River during a military training activity last night, the Indian Army reported on Saturday.

 

According to a post on X by the Indian Army’s Fire and Fury Corps, the incident occurred near the Saser Barngsa area of Eastern Ladakh. The tank became stuck in the Shyok River following a sudden rise in the water level, which led to the unfortunate event.

 

Rescue teams were immediately dispatched to the location. However, the high current and elevated water levels thwarted their efforts, resulting in the tragic loss of the tank crew.

 

“Indian Army regrets the loss of five brave personnel while being operationally deployed in Eastern Ladakh. Rescue operations are underway,” the statement from the army read.

 

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh expressed his condolences over the loss, emphasizing the nation’s solidarity with the bereaved families. “Deeply saddened at the loss of lives of five of our brave Indian Army soldiers in an unfortunate accident while getting the tank across a river in Ladakh,” he posted on X. “We will never forget the exemplary service of our gallant soldiers to the nation. My heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families. The nation stands firm with them during this hour of grief,” he added.
