Says drivers charging Rs 2500 per passenger anopen loot, urges Div Com, DC Jammu to take action

Srinagar, Mar 17 (PTK): Bhartiya Janata Party Jammu and Kashmir spokesman Altaf Thakur expressed his deep anguish and concern on the serious issue of “looting spree” by drivers at Jammu who charge hefty amount from the students and other people on way to Kashmir from various parts of country.

In a statement issued to PTK, Thakur said that he personally observed that Tata Sumo, Travera and, tempo drivers are charging Rs 2500 to Rs 3000 per passengers in Jammu who want to travel to Srinagar. “I met dozens of students who are coming back to Kashmir in the wake of Coronavirus scare and also a large of number of Kashmiri people who work in various parts of country and have applied for leave given the Coronavirus. They were being charged huge amount by the drivers which is very unfortunate,” Thakur said.

He said instead of extending the helping hand to the students and other people who want to reach to their respective homes in Kashmir to stay safe, drivers are looting them by charging the fare which most of them can’t afford. The BJP leader said that in times of medical emergency and fast spreading Covid-19, every section of society must help each other and not try to create problems for people.

Thakur said he assured the aggrieved students and people who had reached Jammu from various parts of country and were desperate to reach Srinagar that the issue will be taken with the divisional administration Jammu and the deputy commissioner Jammu on priority basis.

“I am making fervent appeal to DC Jammu and Divisional Commissioner Jammu to keep a close check on the drivers, who are looting students and other people who want to travel to Srinagar by road. The erring drivers must be challanned and their vehicles should be seized,” Thakur said. (PTK)
