Devastating Fire Ravages Bohrikadal Area of Srinagar
Srinagar : A devastating fire erupted late Monday afternoon in the Bohrikadal area of Srinagar, engulfing multiple structures, including two mosques, several commercial buildings, and residential houses. Authorities are currently investigating the cause of the fire.
An official from the Fire and Emergency Services (F&ES) reported that the blaze severely damaged the roofing, attic portions, and upper storeys of all affected structures. The ground and first floors of one mosque and one residential house, as well as the first and second floors of Nakash, a four-storey commercial building, were particularly hard-hit. Items such as household goods, kiryana items, hosiery, cosmetics, luggage, and bedding were destroyed in the inferno. Other floors suffered partial or slight damage.
The structures involved included:
– Two three-storey mosques, each with four shops on the ground floor and one upper storey used as a Darul Uloom.
– Three commercial buildings with shops on the ground and first floors.
– Nakash, a four-storey commercial building.
– Ten residential houses, one of which had two kiryana shops on the ground floor.
The fire also caused indirect damage due to heat and water to a scooter (Reg. No. JK01AL 1540) and other commercial and residential buildings. Several LPG cylinders inside the properties exploded during the incident.
Three individuals were injured while combating the fire, including two firefighters, Sahil Raina and Bashir Ahmad, and one civilian, Danish Yosuf, son of Mohd Yosuf Mathai. Five other civilians sustained minor injuries.
Firefighting units worked tirelessly to control the blaze and prevent further damage. Authorities are continuing their investigation into the cause of the fire, according to the F&ES official.
