Cracking Down on Unlawful Structures: Demolition Drive Unveils Widespread Violations Along Nallah Sindh in Ganderbal
In a sweeping move against illegal constructions along the banks of Nallah Sindh in Ganderbal, authorities have executed a massive demolition drive, targeting structures within 100 meters of the watercourse. The operation, centered around Doctor’s Colony Preng and Murgund area in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district, saw a joint effort from the revenue department, police, and Irrigation & Flood Control (I & FC) team led by Ganderbal officials.
A significant revelation in the aftermath of the drive is that these structures were in direct violation of a Jammu and Kashmir High Court order, raising questions about the efficacy of enforcement measures. Officials stated that they had issued approximately 200 notices to the violators over time, conducting several anti-encroachment drives against those who failed to comply.
Despite these efforts, the illegal constructions, stretching from Wayul to Gagangeer, continue to be a cause for concern. Residents are expressing apprehension, pointing fingers at influential individuals driving these projects. The perception of authorities being helpless and taking selective action has fueled discontent among locals, highlighting a larger challenge in enforcing stringent measures against such violations.
As the community grapples with the consequences of the demolition drive, there is a pressing need for a comprehensive strategy to address the root causes of unauthorized constructions. The situation underscores the importance of a more proactive and impartial approach from authorities to ensure the responsible development of the region and adherence to legal directives.
