Court Summons Facebook Admin in Defamation Case

A local court in Srinagar has issued a summons to a Facebook admin in response to a defamation plea filed by the NGO “Smile Foundation.” The NGO alleges that the admin, identified as Mudasir Bashir, also known as Mudasir Aziz, circulated “malafide videos” targeting the organization.

The court, presided over by Munsiff/Sub Registrar Srinagar Adnan Manzoor Naqashbandi, has ordered Mudasir Bashir to refrain from interfering with the affairs of the NGO or uploading any videos related to the organization. Additionally, the admin has been instructed to remove all content relevant to the case from his Facebook pages.

Mudasir Bashir has been given a deadline to respond to the notice by the next hearing scheduled for March 26.

Represented by advocates Talib Hussain and Seerat Mehraj, the plaintiff NGO has accused Mudasir of managing multiple Facebook pages under various names, including ‘Kashmir Youth Power,’ ‘News Express,’ ‘Mission Kashmir,’ and ‘Mudasir Aziz.’ The plea alleges that Mudasir, posing as a journalist, has used these platforms to defame individuals and settle personal grudges.

The court’s intervention highlights the growing importance of addressing online defamation and misuse of social media platforms, emphasizing accountability and responsible usage in the digital realm.
