Comprehensive Security Review Held in Anantnag Ahead of Assembly Elections

SRINAGAR: As part of efforts to ensure a secure and incident-free Assembly election in Jammu and Kashmir, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of the South Kashmir Range, Javid Iqbal Matoo, conducted a thorough review of security arrangements in the Anantnag district on Monday.
Held at the District Police Office (DPO) conference hall in Anantnag, the meeting focused on election preparedness, security protocols, and effective coordination between agencies. The DIG emphasized the need for a robust security plan, ensuring strict adherence to the Model Code of Conduct and proactive measures to tackle threats from terrorist affiliates and anti-national elements.
Assembly elections for the 90 seats in Jammu and Kashmir are scheduled to be held in three phases—on September 18, September 25, and October 1—while the results will be declared on October 8.
During the meeting, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Anantnag, G.V. Sundeep Chakravarthy, presented a detailed plan. The security blueprint covered candidate protection, the safety of strong rooms, transportation logistics, deployments, and communication networks, aiming for smooth and incident-free elections.
The DIG stressed the importance of maintaining a strong security grid and called for vigilance and seamless coordination between all participating agencies, including Rajasthan Rifles, CRPF, BSF, ITBP, Army, and the police.
The meeting concluded with the DIG expressing confidence in the ability of the forces to ensure peaceful, safe, and successful elections in the region.
