Badamibagh March: Curfew imposed in Srinagar; internet services snapped
Srinagar, (PTK): JRL calling for a three-day bandh across the Valley in protest against the killing of seven civilians after the Pulwama encounter on Saturday, authorities have imposed curfew in several places in Srinagar on Monday. Security has also been beefed up on the roads leading to the Army Chinar Corps’ headquarters at Badamibagh and the police and CRPF have barricaded the area.
The move to tighten security around the Army Chinar Corp’s HQ comes after separatist leaders, including Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Mohammad Yasin Malik under the Joint Resistance Leadership, asked people to march towards the Army headquarters on Monday. Mirwaiz Umar Farooq had taken to Twitter to call for a complete shutdown and a three-day mourning in the region starting Saturday.
Shutdown was observed across Kashmir, after the death of the seven civilians, who were killed in forces firing after an encounter in Pulwama on Saturday. Three Hizbul Mujahideen militants were killed by security forces in the encounter, while one Army soldier, Sawar Kishan Singh Rajput, was also killed during the encounter.
Meanwhile, five police station areas of the Old City were under curfew on Monday and mobile internet services were suspended in the region, in light of the curfew and the bandh called by separatists. (PTK)
