After around 3 months, Srinagar-Leh highway reopened for traffic on trial basis

Press Trust of Kashmir | Srinagar:- The strategic 434 Km long Srinagar-Leh highway was reopened for traffic for trial basis on Saturday after remaining closed for nearly 2 months and 15 days due to heavy snowfall.

 

An official told the News Agency Press Trust of Kashmir, that this is the earliest reopening of the high mountain Zojila pass and also the minimum period of the closure of the road.The highway was thrown open for traffic after remaining closed for 75 days due to snowfall.

 

He said the pass was declared opened officially by DG of BRO Lt Gen R Choudhary.

 

He said the road is important from the strategic point of view, being the only route between Kashmir and Ladakh.

 

This road is the lifeline for the survival and economic development of people of Ladakh as well as for the security forces,he added.

 

He also said Ladakh and Ganderbal adminstration with BRO will joint inspection after then we will allow civil traffic on Srinagar leh highway.:-PTK.
