Baramulla: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) of Jammu & Kashmir has registered an FIR against Mohd Shafi Rather, a resident of Wanigam Bala, Pattan, District Baramulla, who formerly worked as a Class IV employee (Kandaman) in the Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution (CAPD) department in Baramulla. Rather is accused of possessing disproportionate assets worth crores, allegedly amassed through corrupt practices.
Following a verification process, the ACB found that Rather, initially a commission agent at a fair price shop, was later appointed as a Kandaman in the CAPD Baramulla. He allegedly accumulated massive assets during his tenure, far exceeding his known sources of income.
The investigation revealed that Rather, in collusion with other officials, acquired several properties and made substantial investments across Baramulla and Jammu. These assets include multiple residential properties, significant land holdings, and various movable assets.
Given the findings, the ACB has registered FIR No. 11-2024 under relevant sections of the J&K Prevention of Corruption Act and the J&K Public Men and Public Servants Act. Investigations are ongoing, and search operations at multiple locations have already yielded incriminating documents related to Rather’s assets and investments. Further details are expected as the probe continues.
