SRINAGAR : Congress leader Kadfeen Choudhary expressed strong reservations on Thursday regarding the Jammu and Kashmir administration’s handling of the grievances faced by Srinagar residents, particularly in light of the ongoing smart city project. He characterized the project as a severe punishment for the inhabitants of the summer capital.

During his tour of various areas in Srinagar, Kadfeen remarked on the alarming state of infrastructure, highlighting the rampant vandalism of roads, damage to footpaths, and chaotic traffic conditions. He lamented that these conditions have transformed Srinagar into a city reminiscent of the dark ages, devoid of basic civic amenities.

Kadfeen raised poignant questions about the city’s purported “smart” status, emphasizing the dire consequences of poorly maintained roads, which have led to critical patients perishing in ambulances en route to hospitals. He criticized the Smart City Project for inflicting irreparable damage on Srinagar’s natural landscape and exacerbating traffic woes.

Drawing attention to the pervasive traffic congestion, Kadfeen decried the failure of city revamping efforts. He questioned the tangible benefits of the smart city project for Srinagar residents, asserting that it has only subjected them to dust-filled air and instilled fear due to hazardous road conditions.

Urging swift action from the administration, Kadfeen called for the restoration of Srinagar’s former glory and the rehabilitation of its roads to ensure safe pedestrian and vehicular movement. He emphasized the importance of providing residents with basic amenities and restoring their confidence in the city’s infrastructure.
