Sonamarg Accident: 4 Bodies Recovered, Others Missing as Rescue Operation Suspended

SRINAGAR : A serene journey along the picturesque Srinagar-Leh highway turned into a nightmare today as a vehicle carrying tourists veered off course and plunged into the icy waters of nallah Sindh at Gagangir Sonamarg. The incident, which occurred in the evening, has left a trail of devastation, with at least four bodies recovered and several others feared missing.
In a swift and coordinated response, a joint rescue operation was launched immediately upon receiving the distress call. The efforts, led by the Police, Army’s 34 Assam Rifles, Traffic Rural Police, Civil administration, locals, SDRF, and NDRF, resulted in the retrieval of four bodies from the treacherous waters.
An official, providing insights into the tragic event, disclosed that all occupants of the ill-fated vehicle, barring the driver, were tourists. As of now, only the driver has been accounted for, leaving the fate of others uncertain.
Compounding the challenges faced by the rescue teams, incessant heavy rains have hampered the operations, forcing a temporary halt. The inclement weather has prompted authorities to call off the search until tomorrow, hoping for improved conditions to resume their efforts.
