The Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) Tribunal has upheld the Ministry of Home Affairs’ (MHA) ban on the Jammu and Kashmir Democratic Freedom Party, led by separatist Shabir Shah.

The tribunal’s decision comes in the wake of damning evidence presented in a National Investigation Agency (NIA) chargesheet, which revealed that following the encounter of Burhan Wani in 2016, the Pakistan Government had allegedly sent Rs 1.1 crore to Shah to fuel stone-pelting activities in the region.

The tribunal order sheds light on the gravity of the situation, citing a total of 40 cases registered against Shah. While the majority of these cases (37) were filed by the Jammu and Kashmir Police, it is noteworthy that investigations are underway by multiple agencies, including the NIA, the Enforcement Directorate (ED), and the Delhi Police, indicating the seriousness of the allegations against Shah and his outfit.

This decision underscores the government’s commitment to maintaining peace and security in the region and sends a strong message against those involved in anti-national activities aimed at destabilizing the region.
