Update: Cop killed, four forces’ personnel injured in Batamaloo encounter
SRINAGAR, (PTK): A Special Operations Group (SOG) man was killed and four others, including a policeman and three CRPF personnel, injured in a shootout with the militants in Batamaloo area of Srinagar city on Sunday, police said.
Reports said that the shootout took place near the Unani hospital in Batmaloo. They said that the militants managed to escape from the spot after exchanging fire with the forces.
DIG Central Kashmir VK Birdi said that a cop was killed and four forces’ personnel injured in the exchange of fire. “Jammu and Kashmir Police received an input about the presence of militants in Batamaloo area. Contact was established with the militants during the search operation. A hideout was busted and two accomplices of the militants were arrested,” he said.
He said a militant was also injured in the firefight. “We have received information that a militant has suffered injuries in the initial round of fire. The area has been cordoned off. We are conducting the searches,” he said.
Meanwhile, mobile Internet service has been suspended in Srinagar. An official said the service was suspended as a “precautionary measure”.
