Weather advisory issued for Widespread rain & snow as fresh WD to affect J&K from 3rd to 9th Jan : MET
Possibility of land & air-traffic disruption expected; people asked not to venture out to hilly areas
Srinagar, 03 Jan (PTK) : Weatherman on monday issued an advisory regarding widespread rain and snowfall as two western disturbances are most likely to affect Jammu and Kashmir from evening of 3rd to 9th January. Keeping in view, the administration has appealed to the general public to remain cautious and not to venture out in slopes and warned about possibility temporary disruption of air and surface traffic.
As per the weather advisory sent by Metrological Department to divisional Commissioners of Jammu as well as Kashmir, vide No. WS(Adv)-017/ dated 03/01/2021, of which a copy lies with Press Trust of Kashmir (PTK) that reads ” Two Successive Western Disturbances most likely to affect the Union Territories of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh and adjoining areas from 3rd January (late night) to 9th
January (forenoon), 2022″.
Under the influence of these weather systems, Widespread Moderate Rain/snow is
expected in Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh regions. Light rain/snow would commence at a few places of Kashmir from 3rd January evening and thereafter increase in intensity & distribution.
Main activity of this system will be occurrence of Moderate to Heavy rain/snow, most likely during 5th and 8th January and gradual decrease thereafter. The system is likely to cause heavy rain/snow mainly in Pirpanjal Range of Jammu Division (from Bhaderwah to Banihal), upper reaches of Kashmir (Gulmarg, Sonamarg, Baramulla, kupwara and Drass subdivision of Ladakh UT.
Regarding probable impacts, the advisory says that weather system may lead to temporary disruption of air and surface traffic mainly on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway, Srinagar-Leh National Highway (Zojila Pass),
Leh-Manali Highway, Mughal Road, Sadhna pass and other major hilly roads.
It said that landslides and snow avalanches may occur in vulnerable spots of Jammu-Srinagar/Srinagar-Leh Highways.
There is possibility of electricity disruption and temporary water logging in low lying areas and further dip in day temperature across the Valley, it said.
As such, the general public In view of the weather advisory are asked not to venture into sloppy surface in snow bound areas during heavy snow and are also advised to Maintain proper ventilation, reads the order. (PTK)
