DDC Chairperson elections to be completed by Feb 20 as SEC finds no merit in any objection

DEO srinagar notifies meeting for elected DDCs
Srinigar Feb 02 (PTK) : The Jammu & Kashmir’s State Election Commission (SEC) on Monday reserved offices of chairpersons of district development councils for schedule cates, schedule tribes and women as according to them no merit was found in any objection
The State Election commission today rejected the objections/ representations filed against draft reservation of offices of chairpersons of DDCs.
“It was found that none of the objections/representations so received had any merit. No infirmity, leave alone irregularity was brought out in the draft notification for reservation dated 25th January, 2021,” reads the order.
The SEC had invited objections/ representations, if any, after unveiling draft reservation of offices of chairpersons of DDCs.
According to the order, six seats have been reserved for women and two each for SCs and STs.
While Baramulla, Ganderbal, Shopian, Ramban and Kishtwar have been reserved for women, Poonch has been reserved for women from Schedule Tribe category.
According to the order, Anantnag and Rajouri have been reserved for STs while Jammu and Udhampur seats have been reserved for SCs.
With unveiling of reservation for the posts of DDC chairpersons, elections would be held within next 20 days for these offices.
Meanwhile The District Election Officer Srinagar Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary Monday issued a notification for a meeting of members elected to the District Development Council Srinagar to elect the chairperson and the vice chairperson of the council as mandated under section 45-B of the Jammu & Kashmir Panchayati Raj Act 1989.
The notification issued in pursuance of sub–rule (4) of rule 108-ZN of the Jammu & Kashmir Panchayati Raj Rules 1996 states that the meeting will be held at 11 am on 6 February 2021 in the Meeting Hall of DC Office Srinagar. (PTK)
