Adjudicating Officer FSSA Jammu Imposes Over ₹14 Lakh Fine on Traders for Food Safety Violations
Jammu, May 21 (PTK): The Adjudicating Officer under the Food Safety and Standards Act 2006 in Jammu has imposed fines exceeding ₹14 lakh on several business establishments for violations of food safety norms aimed at protecting public health and ensuring safe food practices.
Officials said penalties amounting to ₹13,78,000 were imposed on manufacturers, distributors and retailers during a series of enforcement actions carried out between December 2025 and May 2026.
The action was taken against establishments found violating provisions of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, including sale and distribution of substandard and misbranded food products, expired food items, rotten meat and operating without valid licences.
In addition, licences of 25 Food Business Operators (FBOs) have been recommended for suspension for failing to deposit penalties imposed earlier for serving unhygienic food, operating without valid licences and dealing in substandard and misbranded food items.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Jammu Vidhu Shekhar, who is the designated Adjudicating Officer under the FSSA, has been leading the enforcement drive as part of the district administration’s zero-tolerance policy against food adulteration and mislabelling.
The Adjudicating Officer appealed to all food business operators in the district to strictly comply with the guidelines and standards prescribed under the Food Safety and Standards Act and ensure that only safe, hygienic and properly labelled food products reach consumers.
Officials warned that strict legal action would continue against those found violating food safety norms.(PTK)
