DC Kulgam Visits Accident-Prone Manigam Crossing on NH-44, Reviews Safety Measures

Kulgam, May 12 (PTK): Deputy Commissioner Shahzad Alam on Monday visited the accident-prone Manigam Crossing on National Highway 44 in Kulgam to review road safety measures and assess the prevailing situation at the site.

During the visit, the Deputy Commissioner took stock of the existing infrastructure and safety arrangements at the crossing, which has witnessed frequent road accidents.

Interacting with local residents, Shahzad Alam patiently heard their concerns regarding recurring accidents and traffic-related issues at the location. The residents demanded construction of a separate service road from Manigam Crossing to Nipora Crossing to streamline vehicular movement and enhance commuter safety.

Acknowledging the seriousness of the issue, the Deputy Commissioner directed the concerned engineering departments to conduct a detailed feasibility study and submit a comprehensive proposal for development of the proposed service road.

He also stressed the need for immediate interim safety measures including installation of proper signage, road markings, speed regulation systems and improved visibility arrangements to prevent further mishaps.

The Deputy Commissioner assured the public that all necessary measures would be taken on priority to minimise accident risks and ensure safer movement for commuters along the highway stretch.

Additional Deputy Commissioner, Superintending Engineer R&B, Executive Engineer R&B, representatives of National Highways Authority of India and other concerned officials accompanied the Deputy Commissioner during the visit.(PTK)
