DC Kulgam Reviews Implementation of ‘Classes of Joy’ Programme
Kulgam, May 11 (PTK): Deputy Commissioner Shahzad Alam on Sunday reviewed the implementation of the “Classes of Joy” programme in Kulgam during a meeting held at the Mini Secretariat.
The meeting was attended by officers of the Education Department, district coordinators, resource persons and members of the Pratham team.
During the meeting, the Deputy Commissioner reviewed the performance and progress of last year’s programme in light of the recently conducted baseline assessment of students from Classes 3rd to 5th. Discussions focused on the existing learning levels of children and the need for targeted interventions to address learning gaps.
Emphasising the importance of strengthening foundational learning, Shahzad Alam directed all stakeholders to adopt suitable measures under Pratham’s Teaching at the Right Level (TaRL) approach for effectively addressing learning loss among students.
He stressed that the programme should be implemented in its true spirit to ensure meaningful and measurable learning outcomes.
The meeting also highlighted the need for appointing dedicated teachers for English and Mathematics in schools who would exclusively oversee implementation of the TaRL methodology.
Officials were directed to ensure proper academic support, regular practice sessions and continuous assessment of students to improve foundational competencies.
Issues related to availability of teaching-learning material, school monitoring and timely supervision were also discussed in detail during the meeting.
The Deputy Commissioner instructed the concerned officials to ensure regular monitoring and coordinated efforts at all levels for achieving the desired educational outcomes.
The meeting concluded with emphasis on collective responsibility and committed efforts from all stakeholders to improve student performance ahead of the endline assessment scheduled for September and October this year.(PTK)
