Govt Bans Private Practice of GMC Srinagar Surgeon Dr. Hanief Dar Over Policy Violation
Srinagar, April 10 (PTK): In a stern move aimed at enforcing discipline among medical faculty, the Government of Jammu and Kashmir has banned Dr. Hanief Dar, Assistant Professor in the Department of Surgery at Government Medical College (GMC) Srinagar, from engaging in any private practice with immediate effect.
The action was taken following an evaluation conducted by the State Health Agency (SHA), J&K, under the AB-PMJAY and PMJAY SEHAT schemes. The assessment revealed that Dr. Dar had performed 1807 surgeries exclusively in private hospitals, without conducting any procedures under the government scheme at GMC Srinagar.
The Government Order No. 308-JK (HME) of 2025, dated April 9, 2025, cites a work-done report from GMC Srinagar, which confirmed that despite being a full-time faculty member, Dr. Dar’s engagement in private practice far outweighed his contribution to the government healthcare system.
Terming it a serious violation of the J&K Service Conduct Rules and directives concerning private practice by medical faculty, the order states that Dr. Hanief Dar is henceforth prohibited from engaging in private practice anywhere in Jammu and Kashmir.
The order, issued by Dr. Syed Abid Rasheed Shah, IAS, Secretary to the Government, cautions that non-compliance will invite disciplinary action as per the service rules.
The government’s decision underlines its zero-tolerance policy towards misuse of public positions, especially in the vital health sector, and reinforces the commitment to strengthening public healthcare delivery systems. (PTK)
