SRINAGAR : Jammu & Kashmir is craving for a radical transformation after facing socio-economic and political turmoil for more than three decades engineered jointly by the traditional mainstream political parties and the separatist cadres. The former has been adopting deceitful tactics to lure gullible people to stay in power while as later used armed violence to instill sense of fear among the masses. Both used their power to meet their own vested interests. Today J&K is a place where socio-economic turmoil coupled with political unrest rules the roost, leaving the people in pathetic and pitiable condition. Even the future seems uncertain in the prevailing situation. However, there is still a hope to restore the dignity and transform the socio-economic and political landscape to prosperity if the voters in Kashmir turnout in large numbers in the ensuing Lok Sabha elections to pull the traditional political parties like National Conference (NC) and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and other separatist-turned mainstream politicians out of the political arena.
This is stated by Nisar Ahmad Ahangar, the Independent candidate from Srinagar Parliamentary Constituency, in a statement issued to the media.
“This is a final opportunity for the Kashmiris to exercise their power of vote and shunt out the traditional politicians once for all to escape from their deceitful and fraud acts. They know what kind of turmoil these politicians brought to them. I just want to remind them that they were subjected to inhuman treatment in one form or the other and denied basic human rights. The funds which were meant for the development of the region and its subjects were grossly embezzled. While claiming messiah of masses, these political parties were clandestinely active in driving violence to meet their own ends resulting in civilian deaths, injuries and destruction of private and public properties on large scale,” said Nisar Ahmad Ahangar.
In its reminder to the Kashmiri people, especially the voters, Ahangar quotes one year report record of Mehbooba Mufti as chief minister of the State. He said: “During her tenure as chief minister of the state, Mehbooba Mufti, left no stone unturned to push common Kashmiris to the wall. Let me remind the Kashmiris that it was under her leadership as CM of the state 157civilians were killed, 17650 injured with1860 civilians suffering eye injuries. During her one year tenure in office 825 civilians were left blind through use of pellet guns. She was instrumental in slapping dreaded Public Safety Act (PSA) to 889 Kashmiris. Over 11000 were arrested in the said period. Under her chief ministership, it was common to witness common households raided, ransacked and inmates beaten. It is not a joke that 74000 houses were ransacked during the said period.”
Ahangar, in his election manifesto among others things lists transformation of education system, health for all, delivery of justice in almost prudent way, focus on transforming the lives of youth through sustainable skill development initiatives etc.
