Valley shuts to remember slain militants commander

SRINAGAR, (PTK): A complete shutdown is being observed in Kashmir valley to remember slain militant commander Burhan Muzzafer Wani on his third death anniversary.

As per the inputs pouring in to PTK, all shops and business establishments are closed in the valley while as the roads provide a deserted look. Schools, petrol pumps and other offices are closed across valley.

The reports said that huge deployment of government forces have been made in all the sensitive areas of valley and restrictions have been imposed in parts of old city to thwart any kind of violence. Curfew like restrictions have been imposed in hometown of slain commander and his residence and graveyard has been sealed.

The authorities have suspended Baramulla – Banihal train service in view of shutdown and to prevent any type of damage to the property.

The internet services have been suspended in parts of south Kashmir and the speed of internet has been reduced to 2G in rest of Kashmir valley which officials said that this step has been as a precautionary measure.

The reports further siad that the situation remained normal till now and no incidents of violence were reported from any part of valley.

The call for shutdown was given by Joint Resistance Leadership ( JRL ) few days ago on Burhans death anniversary and this has been routine since his death.

Burhan Wani was Hizbul Mujahideen cheif in Kashmir and was killed in an encounter with security forces on July 8, 2016. His killing triggered massive outrage in Kashmir valley and for nearly 53 days, valley remained under curfew.

Valley remained shut for nearly six months after his death and around 90 civilians were killed and tens of thousands were injured in violence that erupted after his death. The unrest that erupted after his death was referred as the worst unrest in the history of Kashmir.
