Jammu March 12 (PTK) in a continued effort to combat drug trafficking, the Samba Police apprehended two individuals and seized approximately 17.60 grams of a heroin-like substance in the Bari Brahmana area. The operation was conducted by a police team led by the Station House Officer (SHO) of Police Station Bari Brahmana, under the supervision of the Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Bari Brahmana and the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Samba.
In a statement issued to PTK, The arrests occurred during a routine vehicle checkpoint near SIDCO Chowk Bari Brahmana. Officers intercepted a Ford EcoSport bearing registration number JK01AG-8171, which was traveling from Balole Khad. Upon inspection, they discovered approximately 17.60 grams of a substance resembling heroin in the possession of the occupants.
The suspects have been identified as Junaid Ahmed Shah, son of Gh Nabi Shah, and Tariq Ahmed Bhat, son of Mohammad Jamal Bhat, both residents of Bihama tehsil in Ganderbal district. The contraband and the vehicle were seized, and a First Information Report (FIR) No. 39/2025 under sections 8/21/22/25/29 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been registered at Police Station Bari Brahmana. An investigation is underway.
SSP Samba has reiterated the department’s commitment to taking stringent action against individuals involved in drug trafficking, bovine smuggling, and other criminal activities. The public is urged to cooperate with law enforcement agencies to eradicate such menaces from society.
This incident is part of a broader crackdown on drug-related offenses in the region. In recent operations, the Samba Police have arrested multiple individuals involved in narcotics smuggling. For instance, on January 23, 2025, two drug smugglers were arrested in the Ramgarh area, and approximately 255.37 grams of a heroin-like substance was recovered from their possession. Additionally, on January 1, 2025, five drug peddlers were arrested in separate incidents in Vijaypur and Ghagwal areas, with a total recovery of approximately 14.30 grams of heroin-like substances.
These concerted efforts by the Samba Police reflect a zero-tolerance policy towards drug trafficking and a commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of the community.(PTK)
