Start delivery of ration at every doorstep during lockdown: Er Nazir Yatoo

Srinagar, 03 March:(PTK) Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) senior leader and Ex VC JK Cements, Er Nazir Ahmad Yatoo on Friday urged governor administration to  deliver ration at the doorstep in the entire Jammu and Kashmir during the 21-day lockdown.
In a statement issued here, senior PDP leader, Er Nazir Ahmad Yatoo said that the Lt Governor should work out a plan for doorstep distribution of ration and other essential commodities to the consumers of Jammu and Kashmir, so that long queues and large gatherings at ration depots could be avoided.
He said that food vendors  who are making door-to-door delivery should not be stopped and they should be systematically registered and sent for doorstep supply in every locality.
Er Nazir Yatoo said,  Autorickshaws, pick-up vans, whatever means are available, they should be arranged for ensuring smooth supply of ration to doorsteps in  entire Jammu and Kashmir.
“A huge rush is being witnessed in ration depots of Kashmir valley amid COVID-19 threat, Government should encourage home delivery of food supplies, and should also ensure people to not gather at these places,” he  said.
“What is really worrying is the huge rush in ration depots across the Kashmir valley. You just can’t stop public with proper planning. The lockdown should have been done in well planning. People should have supplied ration to their doorsteps. People are coming out because they  know the situation is gettion from bad to worse. They know that this is something the government has to do, but unfortunately government is doing nothing in welfare of general public” said Er Nazir Yatoo.
Yatoo also said that, there is a dire need to reach out to the daily rated workers, casual labourers and other sections of the society whose livelihood has been badly affected by the lockdown. “While these sections of the society will remain healthy by the home confinement but they are suffering the loss of income as a result of quarantines and other measures, potentially on a sweeping scale. Yatoo appealed Lt Governor to come forward to help such affected families.
He said that wherever large quantities of safe food can be prepared in various places or charitable institutions  it should be provided to stranded labourers in food packets.
Er Nazir Yatoo  demanded that all below poverty line beneficiaries should be given free ration by the government through the Public Distribution System and the government must ensure that this ration is home delivered to these families in order to prevent jumbling at government depots and fair price shops across Jammu and Kashmir.(PTK)
