SF Division Udhampur organizes Plantation Drive to mark Van Mahotsav
PRESS TRUST OF KASHMIR UDHAMPUR, JULY 28: To Mark the Van-Mahotsav and as a part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, a Plantation Drive was organized by the Social Forestry Division Udhampur in the premises of Delhi Public School (DPS) under the Flagship programme “Green J&K Drive” of UT Government.
Chairman, District Development Council Udhampur Lal Chand was the Chief Guest on the occasion. Around 120 saplings of different indigenous ornamental, shade bearing, fruit bearing, medicinal and timber yielding species were planted in the DP campus.
The event was live streamed with the main launch of Green J&K Drive-2022-23 by Lieutenant Governor of J&K at AIIMS Vijaypur.
The DFO Social Forestry Division Udhampur, Abinav Ramyotra, welcomed the dignitaries and informed that the Department of Social Forestry celebrates Vanmahotsav by carrying out many such Plantation drives during the rainy season every year. He also intimated that the Plantation drives are being carried out at Panchayat levels involving the members of the PRIs and locals and the department is also distributing saplings to the people to carry out such plantation drives. This year Social Forestry Division Udhampur has a target to plant around 2.50 Lac saplings, he further disclosed.
While speaking on the occasion, the DDC Chairman appreciated the role of Social Forestry Department in increasing the green cover of the Union Territory and benefit accrued to the people to meet their local demands of grass, leaf fodder, fuel wood, small timber and other forest produce. He appealed to the local people, members of the PRIs, Students, NGOs & other Stakeholders to come forward and participate in such Plantation drives.
During the programme, the Van Mitra Registration Certificates were also distributed to the Volunteers who got enrolled with the Department to voluntarily participate in the plantation drives and other allied activities. Besides this, pledge for environment protection was also undertaken by all the participants and school Children. The winners of the poster making competition organized by Social Forestry Division Udhampur were also announced and prizes also distributed among them.
The function concluded with vote of thanks by Dr. Kunal Anand, Principal DPS Udhampur.
Among other dignitaries who participated in the Vanmahotsav function & Green J&K Drive included DDC Udhampur-1 Puran Chand, BDC Chairman Balwan Singh, Additional SP Udhampur Anwaar UL Haq and Chairmans of the Village Panchayat Plantation Committees (VPPCs) and concerned officers/officials of different departments.
