Drug-Free J&K Campaign Reaches Kishtwar as LG Manoj Sinha Leads Massive Padyatra
Kishtwar, June 6 (PTK): Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Saturday led a massive padyatra in Kishtwar under the ongoing Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyan, reaffirming the administration’s resolve to make Jammu and Kashmir drug-free and dismantle the narco-terror ecosystem operating in the Union Territory.
With the campaign now covering 19 districts of Jammu and Kashmir, the Lieutenant Governor addressed a public rally in Kishtwar and said the movement has evolved into a people-driven mission against drug abuse and narco-terrorism.
“We are breaking the chain of the drug trade at every single link. Whether it is cross-border smugglers, local peddlers or terror financiers, there is no safe haven. Our agencies are hunting down every narco-terrorist and permanently dismantling their networks,” the Lieutenant Governor said.
He noted that over the past nearly two months, citizens from all walks of life have participated in marches across the Union Territory, shared the pain of families affected by addiction and inspired youth to join the fight against drugs.
“Our goal is to create a grassroots resistance against drug abuse and end narco-terrorism once and for all,” he said.
The Lieutenant Governor stated that for the last 56 days, his primary mission has been to eliminate drug smugglers and narco-terrorists from Jammu and Kashmir.
“Whether they operate in Pulwama, Ramban, Kulgam or Kishtwar, drug smugglers and narco-terrorists must understand that there will be no mercy for those who destroy the future of our younger generation,” he asserted.
Referring to the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Lieutenant Governor said the government has adopted a zero-tolerance policy towards narco-terrorism and organized drug trafficking.
He emphasized that while strict action would continue against drug smugglers and narco-terrorists, every possible support would be extended to individuals battling addiction and seeking rehabilitation.
“We are ensuring that those trapped in addiction are brought back into the mainstream with compassion, dignity, treatment and support. However, there can be no compassion for narco-terrorists who profit from the destruction of society and the suffering of families,” he said.
The Lieutenant Governor added that although the current anti-drug campaign is planned for 100 days, it marks the beginning of a much longer and sustained battle against the menace.
“This is not a fight of weeks but a war that requires long-term commitment. By adopting a whole-of-society approach, we will ensure that Jammu and Kashmir is completely rid of drug smugglers and peddlers,” he said.
Highlighting the role of society in combating addiction, the Lieutenant Governor said teachers, Panchayat Mahila Samitis, religious leaders and civil society organizations are emerging as the torchbearers of the movement and are helping protect communities from the dangers of substance abuse.
He said the administration is working to integrate the spirit of the campaign into local communities, enabling people to identify early signs of addiction, intervene in time and support vulnerable individuals.
“This is a defining moment for the future of our children. The people of Jammu and Kashmir have spoken with one voice that narco-terrorists must be driven out from this land,” he said.
The Lieutenant Governor also praised young people who have overcome addiction and chosen a path of recovery, describing their courage as a source of inspiration for the entire society.(PTK)
