PTK NEWS DESK

Jammu, Nov 01: Devender Singh Rana, a prominent leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) representing Nagrota, passed away Thursday night at a hospital in Delhi. His sudden demise has sent ripples through both the political and business communities across Jammu and Kashmir.

Rana was not only known for his political acumen but was also a successful businessman. His well-established automobile venture, JamKash Vehicleades, solidified his status as one of the wealthiest political figures in Jammu, with a net worth reportedly exceeding Rs 123 crore. His recent landslide victory in Nagrota’s Assembly elections, achieved with a record margin, had bolstered his prospects of becoming the BJP Legislative Party leader in the region.

Born in Doda district, Rana’s life and career spanned multiple sectors. He began in business but transitioned into politics with the National Conference (NC), where he served as a close advisor to former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah. In October 2021, he made a landmark shift to the BJP, joining alongside political ally Surjit Singh Slathia after discussions with Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

Rana’s strength lay in his ability to resonate with diverse communities, including Hindus, Muslims, and particularly the Gujjar community. His inclusive approach helped him build a significant support base across Jammu, enhancing his standing in the political landscape.

Rana’s family shared that his body will be brought back to Jammu overnight, and his cremation is scheduled for Friday. He leaves behind his wife, children, and his brother, Dr. Jitendra Singh, Union Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office.
