Qayoom Wani quits politics Terms scrapping special status unconstitutional, undemocratic measure
Srinagar, Mar 12 (PTK): Peoples Democratic Party leader and an erstwhile trade unionist Abdul Qayoom Wani on Thursday announced his decision to quit politics in protest against the scrapping of special status and division of the erstwhile J&K State into two union territories.
In a statement issued to Press Trust of Kashmir (PTK), Wani said, “I am quitting politics in protest against the scrapping of Article 370 and Article 35-A and division of the erstwhile J&K State into two union territories, Jammu and Kashmir Ladakh.”
Saying that all decisions taken by the government of India to scrap special status and bifurcation of the erstwhile J&K State into two union territories are undemocratic and unconstitutional, Wani announced his resignation from action politics.
Qayoom Wani had joined PDP before the commencement of Lok Sabha elections last year and unsuccessfully contested 2019 parliamentary elections from north Kashmir parliamentary constituency.
Before joining politics Qayoom Wani was chairman of Jammu and Kashmir Teachers forum and chairman employees joint action committee. He also headed joint consultant committee and amalgam of several employee associations for several years. (PTK)
