No Flood Threat in Kashmir, Assures Officials

SRINAGAR: Despite recent rainfall, officials in Kashmir have assured residents that there is currently no flood threat in the region. As the precipitation diminishes, authorities are closely monitoring water levels across key areas, particularly the Jhelum river near Ram Munshi Bagh, where levels have been steadily rising.
A senior official from the Irrigation and Flood Control department stated that while rainfall has ceased, they anticipate water levels in the Jhelum river to recede in Srinagar within the next few hours. As of now, there is no imminent flood threat in the Valley.
“Rainfall has ceased, and water levels in the Jhelum and other water bodies in south Kashmir are receding. However, in Srinagar, there is an increasing trend since morning. Nonetheless, there is no flood threat at present. We will continue to monitor the situation closely,” the official remarked.
At 10:00 am, the gauge at Ram Munshi Bagh recorded a level of 15.67 feet, just below the warning level. In contrast, water bodies in south Kashmir are exhibiting a receding trend, providing some relief to residents.
According to officials, at 10 am, the gauge at Sangam recorded 16.79 ft, Pampore recorded over 15 ft, and Asham recorded 8.98 ft.
The situation remains under close scrutiny, with hopes pinned on a reversal of the rising trend in Srinagar and Pampore. Officials urge residents to stay vigilant and follow any advisories issued by local authorities.
