Mian Altaf Ahmad to Contest Lok Sabha Elections for Anantnag-Rajouri Seat

The National Conference (NC) has named Mian Altaf Ahmad as its candidate for the Anantnag-Rajouri Lok Sabha seat in Jammu and Kashmir. The announcement was made by NC vice president Omar Abdullah on behalf of party president Farooq Abdullah.

Mian Altaf Ahmad, a seasoned leader with a strong foothold in the region, has been nominated for the South Kashmir Pir Panjal parliamentary seat. His nomination underscores the party’s confidence in his ability to represent the diverse interests of the constituency.

With the Lok Sabha elections approaching, Ahmad’s widespread popularity across various sections of society is expected to play a crucial role in garnering support from the people. The Anantnag constituency, extending from the Pir Panjal range to include Rajouri and Poonch areas post-delimitation, is set to go to polls on May 7 in the third phase of elections.

The National Conference, aligned with the opposition INDIA bloc, is poised to contest three Lok Sabha seats in the Kashmir Valley. While the party has finalized its candidate for the Anantnag-Rajouri seat, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), also part of the INDIA alliance, is yet to make a formal announcement regarding its candidates for the upcoming elections.

As the political landscape in Jammu and Kashmir continues to evolve, the nomination of Mian Altaf Ahmad reflects the NC’s strategic vision and commitment to representing the aspirations of the people in the region. With the election season heating up, all eyes are now on the candidates as they gear up for a spirited electoral battle in the coming weeks.
