J&K Sports Council Congratulates Rajouri Boxer Mohammad Yasser on Historic Asian Gold

Srinagar, May 15 (PTK): Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council on Thursday congratulated young boxer Mohammad Yasser for winning a historic gold medal at the Asian Boxing Championship held in Uzbekistan, terming the achievement a proud moment for Jammu and Kashmir and the nation.

The Sports Council said Yasser’s international success reflects the growing sporting transformation taking place in Jammu and Kashmir through grassroots sports development, youth empowerment and improved sporting infrastructure.

Hailing from Rajouri and trained at the Khelo India Centre Rajouri, Mohammad Yasser’s journey was described as one of determination, resilience and dedication despite financial hardships and challenging circumstances.

During the championship, Yasser showcased remarkable skill and composure while competing against some of Asia’s top young boxers. He registered important victories against opponents from Kazakhstan and Iran before clinching the gold medal in the final at the prestigious continental event.

The Council observed that Yasser’s achievement highlights the immense sporting talent present among the youth of Jammu and Kashmir and demonstrates how proper guidance, infrastructure and exposure can help athletes from remote regions achieve excellence at the international level.

It further stated that the Union Territory has witnessed significant growth in the sports sector in recent years through the establishment of modern sports infrastructure, Khelo India Centres, talent identification programmes and large-scale sporting initiatives aimed at engaging youth in constructive activities.

Commissioner Secretary Youth Services and Sports Shahid Iqbal Choudhary also congratulated Mohammad Yasser and described the achievement as a proud moment for the Union Territory. He reiterated the government’s commitment towards strengthening grassroots sports and providing international-level opportunities to young athletes.

The achievement sparked celebrations across Rajouri and among the sporting fraternity of Jammu and Kashmir, with coaches, athletes and youth hailing Yasser as a symbol of perseverance and emerging sporting excellence in the Union Territory.
