Srinagar, Sep 1: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) National General Secretary Tarun Chug has declared that Jammu and Kashmir will have a BJP Chief Minister following the upcoming Assembly elections. Speaking to reporters in Jammu, Chug criticized the National Conference (NC) for what he termed as its hypocrisy and deceptive politics.

Chug accused the NC of inconsistency, citing their shift from banning Jamaat-e-Islami to now welcoming its participation in elections. He also questioned NC leader Omar Abdullah’s credibility, pointing out his previous stance of not contesting elections until statehood was restored, which he now seems to have abandoned.

Further, Chug lambasted the NC’s stance on Article 370, highlighting the party’s contradictory promises and statements. “The NC’s promises on Article 370 are contradictory and misleading,” he said, referring to the party’s manifesto versus statements by Dr. Farooq Abdullah.

Chug reiterated that restoring J&K’s statehood remains a top priority for the BJP, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi having assured that statehood would be reinstated post-elections when the situation normalizes.

Chug, who is in Jammu with Union Minister G.K. Reddy, has been actively addressing press conferences and criticizing Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti, blaming them for the longstanding issues in Kashmir.

The BJP is confident of securing a majority in the upcoming elections and forming the next government in J&K. Chug challenged both Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti to a debate on the changes in J&K post-Article 370 abrogation, but has yet to receive a response.
