J&K Police Commemorates Sacrifices in Pakistan-Sponsored Proxy War

 

SRINAGAR: Director General of Jammu and Kashmir Police, R R Swain, revealed on Thursday that over the past 33 years, the J&K Police has lost more than 1600 personnel in the Pakistan-sponsored proxy war, marking the largest toll among security forces in the region. Addressing reporters at the Police Headquarters in Jammu, DGP Swain emphasized that this sacrifice is a testament to the unwavering commitment to national security.

 

In addition to lives lost, DGP Swain acknowledged the injuries, displacement, vilification, and intimidation faced by many officers in the line of duty. He highlighted the attacks on the families of police personnel, expressing the need to chronicle these untold stories and recognize the collective efforts of Jammu and Kashmir Police in the fight against terror.

 

DGP Swain encouraged efforts to document individual and collective narratives, emphasizing the importance of recognizing the contributions and challenges faced by those involved in the national security effort. He mentioned that J&K Police has been honored with 72 gallantry medals by the President and Government of India, making them the highest gallantry medal winners among state police forces.

 

As the nation prepares for Republic Day, DGP Swain assured the public of stringent security measures in place. Collaborative efforts with the army, CAPF led by CRPF, and intelligence agencies have been undertaken to ensure the safety of the celebrations. He expressed confidence that the Republic Day festivities would be peaceful and urged citizens to celebrate with fervor.
