J&K BJP Upholds Controversial Move: Explains Absence from 3 LS Seats in Kashmir

The Jammu and Kashmir BJP has opted not to field candidates in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections for three seats in the Kashmir valley. Defending this decision, party leaders emphasized the larger goal of supporting “patriotic” parties dedicated to the region’s betterment.

Addressing concerns and criticism, J&K BJP chief Ravinder Raina underscored the importance of sometimes making decisions aimed at achieving broader objectives. He emphasized the party’s support for candidates committed to peace, unity, and societal progress in Kashmir.

While refraining from explicitly naming the supported parties or candidates, Raina assured that the BJP would soon disclose the names after consultations with national leadership. He expressed confidence in the BJP’s organizational strength and asserted that supported candidates would secure victory.

Union Minister Jitendra Singh and national general secretary Tarun Chugh echoed Raina’s sentiments, framing the electoral contest as a choice between Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s transformative governance and the dynastic politics of Congress, National Conference, and PDP, which they argued had exploited the region for decades.

The BJP’s decision aligns with Home Minister Amit Shah’s recent call to Kashmiri voters to reject parties responsible for the region’s plight and instead support alternatives committed to its progress. This move underscores the BJP’s strategic vision and its commitment to shaping Kashmir’s future beyond traditional political divisions.
