Four Notorious Drug Peddlers Booked Under PIT NDPS Act in Shopian
Shopian, May 07 (PTK): Jammu and Kashmir Police in Shopian has booked four habitual drug peddlers under the provisions of the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1988 as part of its intensified crackdown against narcotics trafficking.
The accused have been identified as Nadeem Ahmad Mir son of Abdul Hameed Mir resident of Melhura Zainapora, Ajeed Ahmad Mir son of Abdul Rashid Mir resident of Melhura Zainapora, Mohd Asif Mir son of Abdul Rashid Mir resident of Hergam Keller and Mohd Yaqoob Shah son of Mohd Sultan Shah resident of Rawalpora Shopian.
Police said the detention orders were issued by the Divisional Commissioner Kashmir after examining detailed dossiers submitted by Shopian Police highlighting the sustained involvement of the accused in illicit drug trafficking activities. Officials stated that all four are repeat offenders and have been named in multiple narcotics-related FIRs.
Following the detention orders, the accused were lodged in Central Jail Kot Bhalwal Jammu.
Police stated that preventive detention became necessary due to the serious threat posed by the accused to public health, peace and the well-being of vulnerable youth. The action, officials said, reflects the zero-tolerance policy of J&K Police against drug trafficking and its commitment to eradicating the menace from society.
Police also reiterated that sustained operations against drug peddlers and their networks will continue across the district and appealed to citizens to share information regarding drug-related activities or suspicious movement in their localities.(PTK)
