Farmers’ Protest Resumes, Demand Legal Backing for MSP

Farmers have resumed their march on Delhi, demanding legal backing for Minimum Support Price (MSP), encompassing all 23 listed cash crops. This resurgence has led to extensive traffic jams around the national capital’s fortified borders.

The Punjab-Haryana border has become a focal point, where authorities are employing various measures, including barricades and iron nails, to deter the advancing farmers. Reports indicate heavy traffic congestion at the Ghazipur border, necessitating a significant deployment of police forces.

According to official estimates, approximately 14,000 individuals, along with a fleet of vehicles including 1,200 tractor-trolleys, 300 cars, and 10 mini-buses, have amassed along the Punjab-Haryana border. The Union Home Ministry has expressed its strong objections to the Punjab Government over the gathering, citing concerns over deteriorating law-and-order and urging stringent action against any breaches.

The standoff underscores the persisting tensions between the farming community and the government, highlighting the unresolved issue of MSP and its scope across various agricultural commodities. As the protests continue, the authorities face the challenge of balancing public dissent with maintaining law and order.
