Doctor Booked for Extortion in Fake Pregnancy Report & Abortion Offer in Srinagar
The recent revelation of a scandal involving fake pregnancy reports and illegal abortion offers has shocked the residents of Srinagar. The Srinagar Police has taken swift action, booking a doctor for extortion and attempting to commit an offense in connection with the case.
The accused doctor, whose identity remains undisclosed at this time, has been charged under FIR number 24/2024 for extortion and attempting to commit an offense. These charges are serious, as emphasized by an official who stated, “The offenses mentioned in the FIR are cognizable, which means that the Police can arrest the accused without a warrant. It is also a non-bailable offense.”
Legal experts have weighed in on the potential severity of the charges, suggesting that if the investigation uncovers evidence of forgery in the pregnancy reports with the intent to deceive, Section 468 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) could be invoked. Section 468 IPC deals with the punishment for forgery for the purpose of cheating and carries a maximum imprisonment term of seven years.
In response to the gravity of the situation, authorities took decisive action on March 5, sealing a clinic located in Bemina, Srinagar, suspected to be involved in the scandal. Additionally, the government has established a high-level committee to conduct a thorough investigation into the matter.
Chaired by District Health Officer Dr. Rubina, the committee comprises esteemed medical professionals, including Zonal Medical Officers Dr. Sami and Dr. Shafqat, as well as Dr. Parvaiz. This committee has been tasked with unraveling the intricate details of the scandal and ensuring justice for the victims involved.
One such victim, who bravely stepped forward to testify before the inquiry committee, recounted her harrowing experience. She revealed that following public outcry, a woman approached her, offering a substantial sum of money in exchange for returning the prescription related to the fake pregnancy report. However, the victim stood firm in her refusal, demonstrating her integrity in the face of corruption.
Disturbingly, the victim further disclosed that the woman issuing the offer had resorted to threats, highlighting the societal stigma surrounding issues of pregnancy and unmarried status. Undeterred by these attempts at coercion, the victim proceeded to approach the Srinagar Police to register a formal case, seeking justice for herself and others who may have been similarly exploited.
In a display of resilience and determination, the victim’s family has pledged their full cooperation with both the inquiry committee and the ongoing police investigation. Their unwavering support underscores the importance of seeking accountability and ensuring that those responsible for such heinous acts are held to the fullest extent of the law.
As the investigation unfolds, the residents of Srinagar remain vigilant, hopeful for a swift resolution and justice for all victims impacted by this reprehensible scandal.
