DLSA Shopian Organises Plantation Drive on World Environment Day

Shopian, June 5 (PTK): Marking the observance of World Environment Day, the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Shopian, in collaboration with the Forest Department Shopian, on Thursday organized a plantation drive at the District Court Complex, Shopian.

The plantation drive was inaugurated by Mehmood Ahmad Chowdhury, Principal District and Sessions Judge and Chairman DLSA Shopian, in the presence of Qamar Rashid Khan, Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Shopian.

The event witnessed participation from judicial officers, legal professionals and officials associated with the legal services institution, reflecting a collective commitment towards environmental conservation and sustainable development.

Among those present were Riyaz Ahmad Chowdhury, Chief Judicial Magistrate/Sub-Judge Shopian; Mohd Waseem Mirza, Judicial Magistrate First Class/Munsiff; Rameen Rashid Khan, Additional Mobile Magistrate Shopian; Rafie Ahmad Ganie, Chief Legal Aid Defense Counsel (LADC) Shopian; besides panel lawyers, Para Legal Volunteers (PLVs), LADCs, LADC staff and DLSA officials.

Speaking on the occasion, Chairman DLSA Shopian emphasized the significance of afforestation and environmental protection, stating that safeguarding nature is a shared responsibility of every citizen.

He highlighted the importance of maintaining ecological balance and urged participants to actively contribute towards preserving the environment for future generations.

“A healthy environment is essential for a just, sustainable and livable society. Collective efforts towards environmental conservation can play a crucial role in ensuring a better future,” he said.

The plantation drive was conducted with the objective of spreading awareness about environmental protection, promoting green cover and encouraging community participation in conservation initiatives.

Participants planted saplings within the court complex and reiterated their commitment towards protecting the environment and supporting afforestation efforts.

The programme concluded with a pledge by participants to continue contributing towards environmental preservation and to promote awareness regarding sustainable practices in society.(PTK)
