District Admin Srinagar’s Inter-College Cricket Tournament Begins at S.P. College

Srinagar, May 16 (PTK): Senior Superintendent of Police G. V. Sundeep Chakravarthy on Saturday inaugurated the District Administration Srinagar’s Rolling Trophy Inter-College Cricket Tournament (Men & Women)–2026 at Sri Pratap College under the Youth Engagement and Empowerment Programme.

The inaugural ceremony was attended by several dignitaries including Seem Naz, IAS Probationer Alfred Thomas, Principal S.P. College Haris Izhar Tantray, along with principals of various colleges, police officers and officials from the Youth Services and Sports Department.

The opening match of the tournament was played between Amar Singh College and Government Degree College Hyderpora, with Amar Singh College winning the toss and opting to field first.

Officials said a total of 18 teams, including nine men’s teams and nine women’s teams from various government degree colleges across Srinagar, are participating in the tournament.

The participating men’s teams include Government College of Education (IASE), GDC Hyderpora, Amar Singh College, GDC Bemina, GDC Women M.A. Road, S.P. College, GDC Eidgah, Islamia College of Science and Commerce and Gandhi Memorial College.

Women’s teams include GDC Zakura, Vishwa Bharati College, Amar Singh College, GC Women M.A. Road, S.P. College, Gandhi Memorial College, Islamia College of Science and Commerce and GC Women Nawa Kadal.

Speaking on the occasion, SSP Srinagar emphasized the role of sports in character building and youth development. He said sports activities help channel the energy of youth towards productive and meaningful pursuits while promoting discipline and responsibility.

He also urged students to stay away from drugs and adopt healthy lifestyles, stating that substance abuse poses a serious threat to society and the future of youth.

Addressing the gathering, Nodal Principal Kashmir Division Colleges Seem Naz highlighted the importance of sports in promoting discipline, teamwork, leadership qualities and mental resilience among students. She said educational institutions and society must work together to create awareness against drug abuse and provide positive platforms for youth engagement.

The event concluded with enthusiasm among students and participants, marking the beginning of the inter-college cricket tournament aimed at promoting sports culture and youth empowerment in Srinagar.(PTK)
